Fire Service Training

Breathing Apparatus Wearer

Breathing apparatus training is a vital safety critical skill that operational firefighters must acquire.

Breathing Apparatus Wearer Training

The initial course lasts eleven days and covers areas such as movement in restricted visibility, casualty rescue, search procedures, thermal image cameras, guidelines, decontamination and health and safety.

The students are continually assessed to ensure they have achieved all the desired knowledge skills and understanding.

Refresher training is carried out regularly both at the fire station and at Fire Service Headquarters.

Positive Pressure Ventilation improves the safety of firefighters at incidents by removing the products of combustion from a compartment and replacing them with fresh, cool air. To ensure the techniques are carried out safely and efficiently requires in-depth and regular training and assessment.
