Petroleum FAQ'sQ. Do I need a Licence to keep/Store petroleum? A. In General “Yes” But there are several exemptions to this where you do not need a licence. These are: That it is kept for private use or sale, and; That it is kept in glass, earthenware or metal containers, securely stopped and containing not more than 570ml ( 1pint) each; and The aggregate amount kept would not, if the whole contents of the containers were in bulk exceed 15litres Petroleum can also be stored in addition to the above in a safe place under The Motor Vehicle Regulations 1929 (see MVR in the index). Petroleum can also be stored in addition to the above in a safe place under The (Plastic Containers) Regulations 1982. (See details in the index). Q. Does Diesel fuel (DERV - Diesel Engine Road Vehicle) come under the Petroleum Regulations? A. No; but if the storage of DERV / Diesel compromises the safety of a petroleum storage installation, a Petroleum Officer can take the necessary action Q.
