Preparing for emergencies

Historically, the North East has always had strong intra-regional links within the Emergency Planning world.

The role of the Government Office for the North East since the establishment of Regional Resilience Team in April 2003 has been to formalise these links with the creation of the Regional Resilience Forum and the regional utilities group. The Office also supports the regional Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Group.

Risk assessment is the first step in the emergency planning process and aims to identify those risks which could result in a major emergency in County Durham and Darlington. Each risk once identified is then quantified on its likelihood to occur and the probable adverse conditions / impacts which could result.
