Fire Fighting & Extinguishers

FEM Service & Price List

Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service operates a Fire Extinguisher Maintenance (FEM) scheme, essentially for local authority establishments and various grant aided organisations.

This service includes the installation of fire extinguishers, fire hoses, fire blankets and various miscellaneous items of fire protection equipment. In addition, the scheme includes, an annual service/maintenance of the equipment supplied.

The equipment, and associated materials, are purchased at reduced bulk contract prices and these benefits are passed on to our customers. All of the equipment which we purchase and supply conforms to the recognised British/European Standard(s).

Installation and inspection of this equipment is carried out by qualified engineers. In order to ensure high standards are maintained it is advisable that monthly 'in house' inspections are conducted. If any faults are identified you should contact our Transport, Supplies and Services Team immediately.

Please note that our engineers are unable to recharge certain types of stored pressure extinguishers on site, therefore, they will remove them for the necessary servicing to be carried out by our sub contractors 'Peterlee Fire,' who will invoice you directly for this work. Meanwhile, a loaned replacement extinguisher will be left in place until the original is returned.

The following information is correct as of 1st April 2003 until 31st March 2004. Please note that these prices remain fixed for the specified period of any contract.
