Wholetime Main Conditions of Service Hours of Duty
Hours of duty are 42 per week inclusive of meal breaks worked on a rotating shift basis over an eight day period within a prescribed watch-keeping system.
Place of Work
Appointment is to the Authority without limitation to any particular establishment or station and the right is reserved to transfer any employee to any post appropriate to his/her work.
Holidays
Subject to local conditions, annual leave entitlement is 28 days, plus 10 additional public holiday/extra statutory days. On completion of five years service leave is increased by three days.
Superannuation
A Firefighters Pension Scheme is in operation.
Sickness
There is an entitlement to paid sick leave, subject to National Joint Council of Service conditions.
Probation
There is a probation period from the date of appointment.
Training
Effective and regular training is essential for proper performance of duties.
Uniform
Uniform is provided and must be worn whilst on duty.
Hair/Make-Up/Jewellery
Hair must not impair the gas tightness of breathing apparatus nor must it impair vision or hearing. Hair should be worn so as not to present a health and safety hazard. The use of make-up or hair preparations such as gel or hair spray is not allowed whilst on duty neither is the wearing or rings, watches, bracelets or earrings for reasons of health and safety. These requirements apply equally to male and female staff.
Sleeping Accommodation
Whilst on operational night duty sleeping provision is made in mixed sex dormitories. Modesty screening is provided.
