Best Value

What is Best Value?

The Local Government Act 1999 places a statutory duty on Local Authorities to demonstrate Best Value. To do this the Fire Authority must show that its services meet the needs and address the priorities of the people of County Durham and Darlington in the most efficient, effective and economic way.

The legislation provides a challenging performance framework and requires the Authority to:
  • publish an annual Community Plan, this is a public document that incorporates the Corporate Plan, Business Plan and sets out how we are performing against our targets and the results of any Best Value reviews;
  • review all of our services; and
  • demonstrate to you that we are achieving continuous improvement in all of our services.
Details of our current review programme and outcomes can be found in our current Community Plan and our Best Value Reviews. We also have an archive of previous Performance Plans.
