Health & Safety Health and Safety Networks The fire service community across the United Kingdom network in a variety of ways and forums. One such network group that meets regularly is the Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers Association (CACFOA) Health and Safety National Group.
This national group is divided into regional groups which meet on a quarterly basis and is attended by the Principal Officer with responsibility for health and safety matters and, a senior officer who is responsible for health and safety on a day to day basis. To foster good working relationships, and promote the use of best practice, the meeting is also attended by regional Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive from across the region.
The Fire Services covered by this regional forum are:
| Durham & Darlington | Cleveland |
| Tyne & Wear | West Yorkshire |
| North Yorkshire | South Yorkshire |
| Northumberland | Humberside |
Following the north east CACFOA regional meeting, the Health and Safety Practitioners meet to discuss Best Practice within the various Fire Services for the multitude of issues which encompass health and safety.
The Health and Safety Advisor also attends the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Tyne and Wear Branch meetings so as to network with other like-minded safety professionals and the Durham and North Yorkshire Safety Group.
We have our own Joint Health and Safety Committee which is represented by management and Trade Union Representatives. The primary objectives of the Committee is the promotion and development of measures to ensure the health and safety at work of all employees.
