Breathing Apparatus Gas Tight Suit The coverall 'Limited Life Gas Tight Suit' is designed to protect the wearer from hazardous materials in gaseous, liquid or solid form as well as providing protection from radiation particles.
It is to be worn in conjunction with self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus, which is also protected under the suit.
The suit, as its name indicates, is a limited life item and has some degree of flexibility in the re-usage or disposal of the suit. | |
Description
The coverall limited life gas tight suit and ancillary equipment consists of:
- Protective carrying valise;
- Standard size suit stowed in a sealed plastic bag;
- Pair of white cotton gloves in a sealed bag;
- Decontamination bag, cable tie and label;
- Personal line; and
- Firefly Automatic Distress Signalling Unit (ADSU).
These suits are manufactured to meet EN 943 Part 1: 1997, which specifies the performance requirements both for the materials of construction of the suit and for the suit as a whole. The suit comprises of the following features:
- A one piece coverall designed to cover the wearer's whole body and breathing apparatus;
- A large semi-rigid visor which is bonded to the suit giving the wearer a good field of vision;
- Large 'bat winged' sleeves and cuffs which are fitted with a dual glove system. This consists of a laminated inner glove having chemical resistance, bonded to an outer Neoprene glove, affording protection against mechanical abuse as well as having chemical resistance. The gloves are fitted to the suit by means of a locking cone and grommet system;
- The legs of the suit are fitted with highly chemical resistant safety boots conforming to EN 345:1992 locked on to the suit;
- A gas tight zip is fitted to the right hand side of the suit which enables easy donning and removal. The zip is covered by an outer flap which is fastened by a Velcro strip once the zip is fully closed;
- Exhalation valves are fitted at the top of the suit which automatically releases any excess pressure that builds up in the suit during use;
- The waist of the suit is supported by means of an internal belt;
- Provision has been made to affix a personal line and ADSU to the outside of the suit.
